BBned provides wholesale DSL connections. The position consisted of developing applications to provision and monitor the DSL connections. Examples are the Automated Network Provisioning application which can create, modify and destroy DSL connections in a few seconds, and several diagnostics applications to allow engineers to view the status of a connection.
Course on project management
As a technical project lead at Powerhouse I am responsible for different projects. Tasks include assigning work to project members, managing risks, guarding planning, scope and cost.
These projects include:
- Contract registration improvements
- Contract document generation
- Automatic configuration of the invoicing system based on customer contract
- Communication with EDSN (central communications hub for the energy market parties)
- SEPA compliance
- Internationalisation of the currently competely Dutch application
At Powerhouse Thomas was involved in two projects focused on debt collection, and credit checks of prospective clients. Thomas focused on analysis of client wishes, technical design of the application modules, and back-end application programming. Important aspects were business process automation, gathering and display of management data, and communication with external parties.
As a new project Thomas is redesigning the storage, input, modification and processing of contracts. Contracts for Powerhouse are complex entities containing information about electrical and gas connections, trade fees, etc. Thomas is responsible for the datamodel design, the migration from the current model and the modifications to the various applications using contracts.
The TU Delft is automating several business processes that are currently based on paper. Whitehorses did a proof of concept using a self developed forms engine, which allows employees to fill in forms, which are then used in the automated processes.
After whitehorses won the proof of concept at the TU Delft this consisted of the actual implementation of the project based on the knowledge from the proof of concept.
The Provincie Zeeland needed an application that would allow data entry, which ultimately leads to the automatic generation of large parts of the annual report.
Development on the CROSS application which provides data entry and workflow processing of credit requests. The major project during this time was the separation of the Belgian and Dutch branches of Fortis.
Whitehorses made the GVHT2 application for Gemeente den Haag. This position consisted on gathering the changes in requirement since the initial project was completed, and modifying the application to reflect these new requirements.
BBned provides wholesale DSL connections. Besides DSL BBned heavily invests in Fiber technology. In order to connect a user to the correct service provider several network devices must be configured. The project consisted of updating the current Automated Network Provisioning tool to handle the devices and configurations for Fiber connections.
Glencore has updated its back-office. To print transport orders XML documents have to be transformed to PDF documents using XSL-T and XSL-FO. The position focussed on designing the XSL-T documents, and educating internal personnel on the use of XSL-T
